My journey – Jacqueline Ospovat For my 18th birthday, my eldest brother bought me 3 books: The Science of Self- realisation, a book on Meditation, and an Iyengar Yoga book. These formed the basis upon which I started my journey; the Yoga book to teach myself Asanas and at the same time learning Meditation and broadening my awareness through self-realisation. It was the interest gained from such a humble beginning, that the combination of these philosophies led me into finding a Yoga instructor and starting classes. Having a background of ballet and horse riding I had some awareness of good posture, which helped in what proved to be one of the toughest challenges of all: posture the Iyengar way! The more practice I put in; the more my usually stressful self and wildly active mind calmed down. After educational studies, marriage and children and a particularly difficult and stressful time in my life; I turned to Yoga as a full time life style and vocation, travelling to India several times to study, completing Yoga teacher training and therapy courses. Now, having completed several courses with many notable and influential Yogis, such as Donna Farhi, Sarah Powers, Linda Shevloff, Ann Barros and Cle Soren, with the teachings of Peter Thomson and Karin O’Bannon in particular, being so extremely powerful and humbling and having left such a deep impression on me, that I now teach my own blend of Hatha and Iyengar Yoga, based upon these solid foundations. |
